Early Years Foundation Stage

Welcome to Early Years at Alverton School.

Mrs Hall is the teacher for the Woodland Nursery and is supported by Mrs Roberts who is our Nursery Nurse and Miss McClure.

The Woodland Nursery provides Early Years Education for 3 and 4 year olds. The Nursery is in a separate, purpose-built building on the school premises and we are lucky enough to have the most incredible woodland for our children to play and explore in. There are sessions in both the morning and the afternoon and there is the option to stay for lunch when you feel your child is ready to do so.

The Nursery children have P.E sessions in the school hall, visit our library and have lots of other opportunities to feel part of the main school. We also ensure that throughout the school calendar there are lots of opportunities for the children to visit the reception classes and get to know the teachers and routines for the following year.

Mrs Daylak and Miss Hooton teach in the Reception classes, Choughs and Robins. They are supported by Miss Roberts, Miss McClure and Miss Jenkin who are Early Years trained teaching assistants.

The two Reception classes run very closely and are in fact housed in the same room. There are two “carpet” areas where the children register and have focused adult led learning, as well as lots of stories and circle time activities. The whole space is shared between the two classes, ensuring continuity of provision and enabling all children to access both indoor and outdoor activities which will support their learning. We are able to keep our Reception class numbers under 23 ensuring that all children who begin their education at Alverton School have a safe, secure and stimulating start to their school career.
