Physical Education

Please see the PE and Sport section of our website for further details.

Here at Alverton, physical activity and school sport are key priorities for us all. We are determined that our pupils understand the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle and that physical activity is crucial to this. To develop this love of activity, we offer a wide variety of sports both during P.E. lessons as well as through our after school clubs. Mr Timmons, our sports coach, works alongside the teachers to offer a mixture of traditional and and alternative sports such as hockey, netball, football, boccia and dodgeball.

Sports Clubs

We all know that an active child is a happy child and so we ensue that ALL pupils have a club that they can access and will enjoy. Our clubs range from football to zorbing, archery to hockey as well as circuits, basketball, athletics and many more! Our clubs are extremely well attended and supported by parents, who, as part of our latest survey, recognised that we are committed to providing a wide range of extra curricular opportunities. We monitor participation and check attendance and we currently have 108 of our 172 Key Stage 2 population attending an after school club. We target those not attending after school clubs in Key Stage 2 to encourage them to find alternative ways to develop healthy lifestyles.

Girls

Over the last few years, we have developed our Girls Active programme. After noticing that a number of our girls in Key Stage 2 were not interested in school sport, we have developed a range of strategies to target these pupils. This includes offering girls only sport sessions during which the girls receiving coaching for specific skills. As well as that, we have offered many events such as Mothers and Daughters netball and street dance classes as well as entering teams into the Race for Life and the Penrose Park Run.

Sports Days and Festivals

We also understand the importance of competition. We want our children to be determined to improve; improve their skills and confidence in a range of different activities and sports. To do this, we try to enter was many School Games competitions as possible throughout the year. These range from athletics to tennis as well as bowls and swimming. We also enter many teams into the local Penwith leagues. We offer an intra-school sports festival during which every child will compete for their house team as well as traditional sports days which are always hugely popular and well supported.
