Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 and 6)

Welcome to Upper Key Stage 2.

There are three classes in our phase:

Bodrifty - Year 5 Mrs Williams (Class Teacher) Miss Jenkin (TA) Miss Jones (TA)

Bosigran - Year 5/6 Mrs Stellon (Class Teacher) Ms Holliday (Class Teacher) Ms Le Bretton (TA)

Kenidjack - Year 6 Mr Hammond (Class Teacher) Mrs Petty (TA) Mrs Andrews (TA) Ms Le Bretton (TA) Mrs Trevaskis (TA)

In UKS2 we have high expectations and work as a team to deliver the best education which means that the children do not stay in class groups all of the time. English is taught in Year groups. Year 5 is taught in two parallel groups by Mrs Stellon / Ms Holliday and Mrs Williams with in a mix of children from both classes. Year 6 is taught by Mr Hammond, Mrs Higgs and Mrs Wicks (Deputy Headteacher) who deliver a tailored curriculum to the children. Maths is grouped across both year groups. This provides the opportunity to deliver the curriculum at the appropriate pace with a high level of challenge for all pupils to achieve their potential and develop a love of Maths.

We love reading, so we provide every child with a copy of the class book we are using. In addition to our Whole Class Reading sessions, we each have a class book that we read together as often as we can.

We plan as a team and ensure that the children in UKS2 have a huge range of opportunities both in and out of the classroom, working in classes, mixed groups and year groups. In addition to the many activities which are an integral part of our curriculum, each year we offer surfing, outdoor learning, enrichment at both secondary schools, swimming, surf life saving and a range of visits and visitors.

In the summer term we offer residential trips. In Year 5 we go to Porthpean Centre where children sleep in tents and can canoe, kayak, coast steer and do archery, climbing and high ropes. Year 6 go to London for a packed itinerary which takes in the London Eye, a musical show, a tour around St Pauls, eating at restaurants, a river cruise and a day at Lego Land.

Pupils in UKS2 are encouraged to take a hand in the running of their school through the huge range of jobs available. We increase the range of responsibilities at Year 6 expecting all pupils to get involved in some aspect of school life.
